Around the World in 80 Days

Kris had asked about this one recently and we decided to give it a go. Doug took a very early lead but, Charlie’s consistent slowing brought him the final win. Noone went over 80 days but it was clear only James had a chance to beat Charlie at the end and he did not have time to get the right cards. So, the end was a little anti-climatic but, Charlie did a good job.

Svea Rike

Kris has been working on a historical game with event cards. It seemed logical to show him the way this Swedish history game did it. The game was pretty close until the last epic when Charlie surged ahead rather quickly and the event cards started running out. A couple of lost wars and we all were hurting for money. I think this one proved a little to random for some folks but, I really enjoy this one from time to time. And, every game is different.

This is a well (maybe over) produced character playing game. You play characters to collect money from other players and take a special action. The ultimate goal is to collect (buy) the most jewels. It is a little fiddly with lots different rules for each character and it took us a bit to figure everything out. As a result, I think everyone agreed they would play differently next time now that they see how the game works. These ratings are probably lower than they should be but, I still do not see it getting over a 7. Also, I think it will be best with 4, its max complement.
