Well, if last week was James’ night, this night had to go to Charlie. We ran 4 players most of the night with Charlie, James, Kris, Ted (and briefly, Doug)
LOTR – the Duel
Gandalf takes on the Balrog in a duel to cross the bridge. This is a pretty quick, nice little card game. I have enjoyed it. Charlie as the Balrog managed to overtake my Gandalf in the final duel.
Pig Pile
Doug wanted to join for a quick game while we were waiting on James so, Kris, Charlie, Doug and I decided to do some pig hollerin’. Charlie had the best “sooooo heeeeee”.
Tsuro
Still waiting for James, we decided on another quick filler. This one falls into the Metro – lite category. Very quick tile laying game where you try to keep you player on the board the longest. Guess who won? Charlie.
Caylus
Kris has been asking for Caylus for a few weeks. So, as Doug left and James arrived, it was the 4 player version. This game was very close until the last third. Some how, the wild man, Charlie just took off with his castle building strategy. I think he was really unmatchable. I was forced to end the game quickly just to maintain my second place position. Another win for Charlie.
John Silver
This is the new card game from Eggertspiele. It is really a light 30 minute filler. Basically, you place cards into columns under each player trying to get the good stuff and stick others with the bad stuff. A couple of neat ideas with apples scoring to the left and black spots hurting people that get too many. Finally, we broke Charlie’s hold on the night as James managed to out Pirate us.
Samurai
Charlie had to leave and we decided one quick 3 player before calling it a night. Out came this older Knizia title. James and I tied for high hats kicking him out of being able to win the game. As Kris and I squared off, I managed to take the win with the most pieces.
