At the table: Kris, Charlie, and Ted
Elk Fest
Knowing Charlie was due any moment, Kris and I jumped into a very quick silly filler. I successfully navigated the treacherous waters bounding my Elk rock by rock to the victory.
Take Six
We had a few people who couldn’t make it and we were not sure who was still on the way, so we opened with a new game to Kris that could be stopped at any time. We really didn’t keep score but I was the definite looser the first two rounds.
When we decided we would be three for the evening, we jumped into Kris’s “want to play list”. This is actually the first time I have ever played with 3. The game seems to work just fine. Not quite as many tile options with less players but, no real issue. Kris focused on a even strategy by keeping his columns progressing together. Charlie and I took on all the colonies and a sprint in a couple of columns. At the end of the adventure it was a close game Kris 32, Ted 34, Charlie 34. Charlie won the tie breaker with the most money.
Mammoth Hunters
Another Kris request. This one got a bad rap when it came out. I only own it as a result of a great deal or a turkey swap. I do not call this game incredible...but with 3 players it was not bad. There are some nice ideas here in terms of paying for good things for you or earning money but, letting other players get to take actions. It has grown on me. I think I will hang onto my copy for a while. And, with three players, it is not nearly as chaotic as with 5. Charlie proved to be the best hunter.
Torres
Another very close game with scores within 3 of each other. Kris was the only one to pull the King’s bonus in the last round that took him over the top. This had a very interesting skyscraper in it as we managed to build an 8 base castle and we were up on the 7th floor.
