More library support for Veterans Day and National
Games Week. This was a nice turn out with 6 new gamers
showing up to check out these designer games.
10 Days in the US
Arriving early, Charlie, Kris, and Ted decided just to pass the time with a quick game. Charlie won.
Scotland Yard
We set this one up for 6 and when another few showed up, Charlie and
Kris jumped to another table to support some new arrivals and then we
picked up another that came it and decided to go at 5 players.
Ted took on the role of Mr. X (Sir X now) with 5 newbies.
They all rallied very well and worked nicely as a team.
Twice they were within one square of me. But, my black
tickets and 2x movements kept me from their grasp. I think
everyone had a good time.
That's Life
Next up was this quick dice rolling game. There was a lot of
chatter and excitement for everyone in this one. The comment was
made that someone needed to buy this one and we handed them a sheet on
where to buy it.
Trans America
Next it was time for 5 of us to build rails across the US. We
were getting short on time as the poetry club was next for the room so,
we decided only to play one round to give people an idea of the game.
This was another hit and a purchase request.
At the other table the played That's Life, Ticket to Ride, Palazzo and Voltage.
It was a rather successful day at the library and it was time to head back to the house for more gaming!!!!
Here I Stand
Charlie, Kris, and Ted decided to give this marathon game a go as we
had most of Saturday left. Kris took the roll of Hapsburgs
and Papacy, Charlie was Ottomans and France, and Ted took the
Protestants and England. How did we do? Well we did quit
one turn early because of time in a 5 turn scenario so, the protestants
were just able to send out armies and as a result got little score.
Henry got married a couple of times and actually had a sickly
child. The pope almost completed his shrine and the Ottomans
bogged down trying to move west. France sued for piece against
Spain for the win. And, many explorers and colonists died trying
to find the new world. Bottom line, we had a good time and it
was nice to see the history of the labor of love. The game is way
too long and quite fiddly for my tastes. I can understand why
some people will really like it with its many paths to victory and
historical accuracy.
After dinner, Kris had to leave and Charlie and I were joined by the teenagers.
Torres
This is one of Doug's recent favorites. Charlie managed the win.
War of the Sheep
I managed to get an 8 field somewhat near the end and pass for the
extra 6 points which got me over the top for the win. Red and
Blue could have won if they would have passed first as they had big
fields.
Totem
The final game of the evening used to be one of Emily's favorites and
one Charlie had not played before. We were playing with some
homemade variants to keep the game from running too long. Indian
families were throwing spells, hunting, reproducing and dying.
Charlie's family got wiped out twice and mine got wiped out once.
I did manage to win the game by one person in the tie breaker.
This one is sort of fun if it does not run too long.
